We Have An Anchor

If there is only one strand of faith amongst all the corruption within us, God will take hold of that one strand.
-          Oswald Chambers.

I have been familiar with this song ever since I, as a 14-year old boy,  had accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour in 1962 in a small Church at Virginia, South Africa.

We Have An Anchor

(Priscilla J. Owens, 1829-1907/William J. Kirkpatrick, 1838-1921)

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

It is safely moored, ‘twill the storm withstand
For ‘tis well secured by the Savior’s hand;
Tho the tempest rage and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o’er-flow.

When our eyes behold thru the gathering night
The city of gold, our harbor bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heav’nly shore,
With the storms all past for evermore.

CHORUS: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.
