   I would that this whip would fall upon your backs, that you might be flogged out of your selfrighteousness and made to fly to Jesus Christ and find shelter there.
 -   Charles Spurgeon.

   I include this song in my gallery of favourites because it has been a huge blessing to my heart, but also because it has stood the stringent test of time … this year (2013) this song will be at least 467 years old and is still being sung all over the world.  What had begun as a small 'homecell group' in Jerusalem  two-thousand years ago, culminated into the biggest organisation in the Universe today: The 'Ecclesia' ... the universal Church of Jesus Christ, the Bride of Christ. I quote from two verses:

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

(Martin Luther, 1483-1546/Trans. by Frederick H. Hedge, 1805-1890)

A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe –
His craft and pow’r are great, And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

That word above all earthly pow’rs –
No thanks to them abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Thru Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still−
